CNA Certification Requirements in Utah
The Utah Nursing Assistant Registry is responsible for regulating the training standards and certifications of all Certified Nursing Assistant candidates in Utah. If you want to obtain certification here, you will first need to complete a nursing assistant training and competency evaluation program (NATCEP). After completing this important requirement, you need to pass the state’s knowledge and skills exam.
How to Get Your CNA Certification in Utah
Obtaining your nursing assistant certification in Utah is remarkably easy. You merely need to complete the training + evaluation program and achieve satisfactory scores on both portions (knowledge and skills) of the state’s CNA certification test, and you will be placed on the Utah nursing assistant registry. Your primary nurse aide certification in Utah will be valid for two years.
How to Verify Your CNA Certification in Utah
Every now and then, you may find that you need to verify your CNA certification in Utah. If this happens, go to the Utah Nursing Assistant Registry website and click on "Nurse Assistant Registry." This will lead you to a tool that will allow you to check your current status as a nursing assistant in Utah.
How to Renew Your CNA Certification in Utah
In Utah, you must renew your nursing assistant certification every two years. You will be mailed a renewal notice to your address on file. You will also receive the renewal form at least 40 days prior to your certification's expiration date. Just fill the form out, and ensuring everything is correct on the form, send it back to the Nursing Assistant Registry. Your renewal notice must also be signed by a licensed nurse, under whom you work(ed), and returned to the registry’s office before expiration. You must complete at least 200 hours of paid work as CNA during the past 24 months to be eligible for renewal.
How to Reinstate Your CNA Certification in Utah
If you fail to meet the renewal requirement, you will need to reinstate your certification. If your renewal form is received by the registry within six months of your certification expiration date and you pay the late fees for all the months you didn’t submit the form in, your certification will be renewed/reinstated. If it has been past six months but within 12 months, you will have to retest by paying the testing fees. If you fail both the tests on first attempt, you will have to retrain by paying for all the training fees and then retest by paying the testing fees again.
How to Transfer Your CNA Certification from Utah to Another State
If you are moving out of Utah and need to transfer your CNA certification to your new state, you must first find out about the other state's transfer procedure. You can easily locate the proper agency by navigating to the Utah Nursing Assistant Registry homepage and clicking on "State NA Registries List." Transfer criteria may vary, but often includes CNA verification, continuing education classwork, transfer fees, and/or additional testing.
