SRNA Registration Requirements in Minnesota
In the state of Minnesota, you must be registered to work as a nursing assistant. Therefore, nursing assistants in this state are appropriately referred to as State-Registered Nurse Assistants, or SRNAs. To become registered, you must successfully complete an approved nursing assistant training and competency evaluation program or successfully pass the Minnesota approved competency test for nursing assistants.
How to Get Your SRNA Registration in Minnesota
One of the best things about choosing to become an SRNA in Minnesota is that the registration procedure is extremely easy. All that is required to have your name added to the Nurse Aide Registry is you meeting either of the above mentioned requirements.
How to Verify Your SRNA Registration in Minnesota
Occasionally, there may be times when you need to verify your SRNA registration in Minnesota. In case you do, go to the Minnesota Department of Health website and click on "Health Care Facilities, Providers & Insurance." Next, click on " Provider Certifications, Licenses, Registrations and Rosters." On the page that opens, click on “Nursing Assistant Registry.” Then, click on "How to Check the Registry." On the page that then opens, click on “Online registry verification.” Using the tool that opens, you can verify your SRNA registration by name or certificate number.
How to Renew Your SRNA Registration in Minnesota
You must renew your SRNA registration in Minnesota every two years and you must work at least 8 hours as a paid nursing assistant every 24 months to renew. To renew, click on “How to Stay on the Registry” on the Nursing Assistant Registry page. Complete the Nursing Assistant Registry Update form (PDF) found on the page that opens and mail it to MDH at least once every 24 months.
How to Reinstate Your SRNA Registration in Minnesota
If you fail to work at least eight hours as an SRNA in Minnesota every two-year period, you will be required to retake the SRNA competency exam. You must receive passing scores on both portions of the exam for your name to be placed back on the state's registry.
How to Transfer Your SRNA Registration from Minnesota to Another State
To transfer your nurse assistant registration out of Minnesota to another state, you must find out about the other state's unique transfer requirements. While most states may allow you to transfer through reciprocity, some require other criteria as well such as additional training, continuing education classes and/or testing. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing can help you locate your new state's nurse assistant regulatory agency.
