CNA Certification Requirements in Ohio
The Department of Health sets the standards for CNA training and certification in Ohio. To obtain nursing assistant certification in Ohio, you are required to attend at least 75 hours of CNA instruction. You must also take the CNA competency evaluation exam and achieve acceptable scores on both parts of the test. You have a total of three chances to pass your competency evaluation test. If you fail on all three occasions, you will need to retrain.
How to Get Your CNA Certification in Ohio
Earning your CNA certification in Ohio is very simple. The only things required of you are to complete the state-approved training program and pass the state's CNA competency evaluation examination. If you are able to achieve passing scores on your evaluation, the testing administrator will direct your scores to the Ohio Nurse Aide Registry. At this point, your name will be added to the registry, and you will be granted CNA certification.
How to Verify Your CNA Certification in Ohio
From time to time, you may find that you need to verify your CNA certification in Ohio. To do this, go to the Ohio Department of Health website and click on the letter C in the A-Z Index. Next, click on "Public Registry Search." The next page contains the CNA verification search tool you need to check your status.
How to Renew Your CNA Certification in Ohio
In Ohio, Certified Nursing Assistants need to renew their certification every two years. The Department of Health will mail you a renewal form prior to your certification's expiration date. You must fill this form out and mail it back to the Department to renew your certification for two more years.
How to Reinstate Your CNA Certification in Ohio
Nursing assistants in Ohio who did not work at least eight hours during the two-year period before the renewal date of their certifications will need to reinstate their certification. In this situation, the CNAs in question will need to pass the competency evaluation examination again. Passing scores will place their names back on the registry.
How to Transfer Your CNA Certification from Ohio to Another State
If it becomes necessary to transfer your CNA certification to a different state, you will need to abide by the transfer requirements of the new state. Therefore, you will have to contact the new state’s CNA regulatory agency. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing maintains a record of all CNA regulatory agencies in the U.S. We also offer a list of state CNA registries. You can download it from here. Typical requirements include CNA verification, continuing education, transfer fees, and/or testing.
